The iPhone 16 lineup will consist of four devices: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Plus, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Apple has maintained the two screen sizes for iPhone Pro models since 2020 when it launched the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max. However, that’s rumored to change with the iPhone 16 Pro models, which might get bigger screens.
The iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to increase in size. The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to feature a 6.3-inch display, up from the 6.1-inch display in the iPhone 15 Pro. Similarly, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a 6.9-inch display, up from the 6.7-inch display in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. While the larger displays offer more screen space, the overall dimensions of the devices will also increase, making the new models slightly taller and wider than the older models.
Apple’s big event on May 7 delivered an iPad Pro (2024) which featured impressive new ‘tandem OLED’ display technology, which combines two panels to make one super-thin and super-bright screen. Many Apple fanatics are however speculating that this new display tech will now likely come to the iPhone 16.
The latest iPhone 16 Pro display rumors suggest that the phone will support ‘Multi-Lens Array” (MLA) AMOLED displays. These will still likely be the brightest screens seen on an iPhone.
Apple is also expected to continue using the frosted-effect rear glass that contrasts with the main frame color. However, it is expected that the iPhone 16 Pro series will have colors such as “space black” and “rose titanium,” providing users with new finish options.
The iPhone 16 Pro series is expected to be powered by Apple’s new A18 chip, built on the latest 3-nanometer node. Fanatics can expect a notable boost in efficiency and speed. Additionally, AI and machine learning capabilities are expected to be enhanced, along with improved neural engine performance.
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are rumored to feature notable camera upgrades. The main camera sensor is rumored to be a more advanced 48-megapixel lens, incorporating a stacked design for improved performance. Additionally, the new models could offer an 8-part hybrid lens on the wide-angle camera, alongside enhancements for telephoto and ultra-wide lenses. Both models are said to feature Tetra Prism zoom lenses, offering at least 5x optical zoom and up to 25x digital zoom. An anti-reflective optical coating is also expected to improve photo quality by reducing lens flare and ghosting.
This beautiful beast will also feature a new Capture Button with the iPhone 16 Pro models for taking photos and videos, located on the right side of the device. This button will be mechanical rather than capacitive, with pressure and touch sensitivity for functions like zooming, focusing, and activating recordings.
Apple is set to host its annual developer conference, WWDC, in June 2024, and we can expect more details on the upcoming iOS 18-which will debut with the iPhone 16 series-and more information on the AI features during the event.
