Can you believe the iPhone 16 Pro Max has over 100 times more processing power than the very first iPhone 2G?
That’s how far Apple’s iPhone journey has come — from the groundbreaking device Steve Jobs unveiled in 2007, to the powerhouse models launched under Tim Cook after Jobs’ passing in 2011, just a day after the iPhone 4S was introduced.
Over the years, everything has changed — processors, cameras, body design, displays, and even the batteries.
Let’s take a trip down memory lane!

2007 – iPhone (1st Generation / iPhone 2G)
The one that started it all. Steve Jobs famously introduced the world to multi-touch displays — a feature no smartphone had before.
2008 – iPhone 3G
Brought 3G internet and the launch of the App Store, opening the door to millions of third-party apps.
2009 – iPhone 3GS
The “S” stood for Speed — and it introduced video recording on an iPhone for the first time.
2010 – iPhone 4
Known for its glass design and the infamous “Antennagate” scandal. It also introduced FaceTime video calls.
2011 – iPhone 4S
The last iPhone announced during Steve Jobs’ lifetime. It debuted Siri, Apple’s voice assistant. Jobs passed away the day after its launch event. May he keep resting in POWER!
2012 – iPhone 5
A taller display and the new Lightning connector, which replaced the 30-pin dock connector.
2013 – iPhone 5s & 5c
The 5s brought Touch ID fingerprint security, while the colorful 5c aimed for a more playful market.
2014 – iPhone 6 & 6 Plus
A major redesign with larger screens and the introduction of Apple Pay.
2015 – iPhone 6s & 6s Plus
Introduced 3D Touch and upgraded cameras.
2016 – iPhone 7 & 7 Plus
Apple removed the headphone jack for the first time, made the phone water-resistant, and introduced Portrait Mode on the 7 Plus.
2017 – iPhone X
The 10th-anniversary iPhone ditched the home button, introduced Face ID, and delivered the first all-screen OLED display.
2018 – iPhone XS, XS Max & XR
The XS Max brought a bigger display, while the XR made Face ID more affordable.

2019 – iPhone 11 Series
Night Mode for low-light photography made its debut.
2020 – iPhone 12 Series
First iPhones with 5G and MagSafe magnetic accessories.
2021 – iPhone 13 Series
The last series with a notch on the Pro models, and introduced Cinematic Mode for video.
2022 – iPhone 14 Series
Brought Dynamic Island to replace the notch on the Pro models and introduced Crash Detection.
2023 – iPhone 15 Series
Titanium build for Pro models and the switch to USB-C charging.
2024 – iPhone 16 Series
Added a dedicated Camera Action Button for quick shots and video capture.
And now, we wait for the iPhone 17, expected in September 2025. What new features do you think Apple will surprise us with next?
