Many people are highly anticipating the release of the iPhone 16 which will be sometime in September, however with the overwhelming leaks of the iPhone 16,it might not be the phone of the future for many, and we quite understand why.
Just so you know, Apple’s iPhone development roadmap runs several years into the future and the company is continually working with suppliers on several successive iPhone models simultaneously, which is why we sometimes get rumored feature leaks so far ahead of launch. The iPhone 17 series is no different – already we have some idea of what to expect from Apple’s 2025 smartphone lineup.
So, the main question is – Should you skip the iPhone 16 and wait for the 17 that shall be released in September 2025?
Let’s give you a snippet of what to expect in the iPhone 16…
Camera
I will definitely start here because this is what most Ugandans use their iPhones for besides making calls and making noise on social media.
The base models i.e the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 plus will feature a vertical camera which is aimed at enabling them to take spatial videos for the Apple Vision Pro that was released earlier this year. The 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are also said to, for the first time feature the same camera; now the people that have been using the 15 Pro know how annoying it has been for them not to be able to use the 5x zoom available on the 15 Pro Max, but luckily that’s going to end; the Pro users will have the same 48mp and 5x zoom camera.
Design
The most unique thing about the iPhone 16 is set to be its size, yes I said it. The size changes will be limited to the iPhone 16 Pro models, with the iPhone 16 models to stay the same size as the iPhone 15 models. While the iPhone 16 models won’t get bigger, they will get some minor design tweaks thanks to extra buttons, but for the most part, both the standard iPhone 16 models and the Pro models will look like the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro models.
The iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are set to be the biggest iPhones ever with the 16 Pro at 6.3 inches and the 16 Pro Max at 6.9 inches which will allow them accommodate bigger batteries and I guess it’s the same reason the 16 Pro will be able to accommodate the larger lens in the 16 Pro Max.
A capture button dedicated to taking pics is also assumed to be released on the 16 Pro Max. I am curiously waiting for the positioning but rumors have it that it will be located right below the power button.
Chip
Apple is designing new A-series chips for the iPhone 16 lineup, built on the latest N3E 3-nanometer node. We could see some improvements to efficiency and performance, but we haven’t yet heard details on just what we can expect. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro could use different chips, with the higher-end chip limited to the Pro models.
Now I know a lot of you don’t really care about this, myself included as I know it’s not the only reason the latest iPhone appears faster but sometimes the previous model is reduced in operating speeds to make the latest model appear faster, but yeah the 16 pro is likely to feature the A18 Pro chip.
Battery
Leaks indicate that the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could see an increased battery size. The apparent increase for those models could be joined by a 6% decrease in the capacity of the iPhone 16 Plus’s battery however. As for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, a separate rumor suggests their battery sizes will increase to 3,577 mAh and 4,747 mAh, respectively. That compares to 3,274 mAh on the iPhone 15 Pro and 4,422 mAh on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Apple could promise over 30 hours of battery life for the new iPhones.
The iPhone 16 models are also expected to support faster charging of up to 41 watts (wired) and 20 watts wireless ; this is also attributed to the bigger batteries that will necessitate more power to charge them up.
Colors
There have been mixed rumors about the color options for the iPhone 16 models. One rumor suggested seven colors, including blue, pink, yellow, green, black, white, and purple.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, though, believes the iPhone 16 will be available in black, green, pink, blue, and white, with no purple or yellow options.
The iPhone 16 models are expected to adopt the same color-infused back glass that was used for the iPhone 15 models. The rear glass layer will feature a frosted effect that contrasts with the main frame color.
Apple Intelligence
With this new software Apple itself has projected higher sales attributing them to this new software, coupled with hardware that will showcase some of the coolest AI features in a phone. As Apple’s culture is, I presume these features will be most efficient on the latest iPhone 16 series pushing their sales. Apple has partnered with chat open ai to make this and personally this is the feature I am most excited about.
