Earlier this week, Apple Inc. rolled out a fresh wave of product announcements from Monday through Tuesday, with the final batch set to be unveiled today. While several upgrades and ecosystem improvements were introduced, two devices stand out for everyday users: the new M5 MacBook Air and the iPhone 17e.

At Sage Buyers, we’ve taken time to analyze what these launches mean, especially for the Ugandan market.

The M5 MacBook Air: Power Meets Portability

The MacBook Air has always been a favorite for students, entrepreneurs, and creatives in Uganda. With the new M5 chip, Apple is pushing performance even further.

Uganda’s digital economy is growing rapidly. From content creators and graphic designers to developers and online entrepreneurs, performance is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessity.

The M5 MacBook Air is expected to deliver:

  • Faster processing speeds
  • Improved battery efficiency
  • Better performance for video editing and design software
  • Enhanced AI and multitasking capabilities

Announced on 3rd March,  the new MacBook Air with M5, brings exceptional performance and expanded AI capabilities to the world’s most popular laptop. M5 features a faster CPU and next-generation GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core, enabling MacBook Air to power through a variety of workflows, from creative projects to complex AI tasks.

The M5 MacBook Air now comes standard with double the starting storage at 512GB with faster SSD technology, and is configurable up to 4TB, so customers can keep their most important work on hand.

Apple’s N1 wireless chip delivers Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 for seamless connectivity on the go. MacBook Air features a beautifully thin, light, and durable aluminum design, a stunning Liquid Retina display, a 12MP Center Stage camera, up to 18 hours of battery life, an immersive sound system with Spatial Audio, and two Thunderbolt 4 ports with support for up to two external displays.

Combined with the power of macOS Tahoe and Apple Intelligence, MacBook Air delivers unmatched value for college students and creative professionals, and it’s the most popular laptop for business users. Available in 13- and 15-inch models in sky blue, midnight, starlight, and silver, the new MacBook Air with M5 is available for pre-order starting March 4, with availability beginning Wednesday, March 11.

For university students at Makerere, MUBS, Kyambogo, and beyond, this means smoother research, faster assignments, and better productivity. For business owners, it means handling heavy Excel sheets, marketing designs, and online operations without lag.

The MacBook Air has historically balanced performance, portability, and prestige, and the M5 version strengthens that positioning.

However, in Uganda, pricing always shapes demand, and the M5 MacBook Air will start at approximately UGX 3,900,000 – UGX 4,500,000. While excitement will be high, uptake will largely depend on affordability and payment flexibility, which is why our installment-based purchasing options are becoming more relevant than ever.

The iPhone 17e: The Real Crowd Puller?

If we’re being honest about the Ugandan market, smartphones generate more immediate buzz than laptops, and the iPhone 17e could easily be the bigger conversation starter.

The “e” models typically aim to offer:

  • Flagship-level performance
  • Strong camera capabilities
  • Longer software support
  • A slightly more accessible price point than Pro models

The iPhone 17e, announced on March 2, 2026, starts at approximately UGX 2,200,000 – UGX 2,800,000 and comes with 256 GB of storage as standard, doubling the previous generation’s entry-level capacity. It is powered by Apple’s new A19 chip built on 3nm technology, offering up to twice the performance of the iPhone 11, and features the in-house C1X modem for faster, more energy-efficient connectivity.

The device has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with Ceramic Shield 2, aerospace-grade aluminum construction, IP68 water and dust resistance, Face ID, and a customizable Action button.

Photography is handled by a single 48MP Fusion camera with 2× optical-quality telephoto, supporting advanced portrait, Night mode, HDR, and 4K/60fps Dolby Vision video. Battery life is designed for all-day use, with USB-C fast charging, MagSafe, and Qi2 wireless support.

Safety and connectivity features include satellite-based Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, Messages, Find My, and Crash Detection. The phone runs iOS 26, introducing the Liquid Glass design language, expanded Apple Intelligence features, and tools like Call Screening and Hold Assist. Built with 30% recycled materials and powered by renewable electricity, the iPhone 17e reflects Apple’s environmental commitments.

It will be available in black, white, and soft pink, with pre-orders beginning March 4 and availability starting March 11 in over 70 countries.

For a market like Uganda where brand perception, camera quality, and social media presence matter, this is huge and will ensure smartphone penetration.

Why Ugandans Will Be Excited

  1. Camera Quality for Content Creators
TikTokers, YouTubers, and Instagram business owners rely heavily on camera performance. A refined camera system at a relatively lower price point will attract creators instantly.
  2. iOS Longevity
Many Ugandan buyers prefer iPhones because of their longer software support cycle. The iPhone 17e is likely to receive updates for years, making it a long-term investment.
  3. Status + Reliability
iPhones continue to hold strong resale value in Uganda. That makes them not just gadgets, but financial assets in a way.
  4. Battery & Performance Balance
For boda entrepreneurs, online traders, field agents, and business managers, all-day battery life is non-negotiable.

Between the two products, the iPhone 17e is likely to spark broader mass-market demand, while the M5 MacBook Air will dominate among professionals and high-income earners.

What This Means for the Ugandan Tech Buyer

Ugandan consumers are no longer just buying gadgets — they’re buying productivity, content power, and income-generating tools. The M5 MacBook Air will excite professionals, students, and digital entrepreneurs, while the iPhone 17e will excite almost everyone.

For a market that values performance but remains price-sensitive, flexible purchasing options will determine how fast these devices penetrate.

At Sage Buyers, we understand this shift. As global tech evolves, our mission remains simple: make premium devices accessible through smarter payment solutions that work for Ugandans.

Apple’s latest releases reinforce one thing: the future is faster, smarter, and more mobile.

In Uganda, where youth, digital growth, and entrepreneurship are rising, the iPhone 17e may steal the spotlight, but the M5 MacBook Air could quietly power the next wave of builders.
